Liverpool fans call for one thing following win over Huddersfield

Supporters of Liverpool have tonight taken to social media to plead with the club to convince midfielder Emre Can to sign a new deal, following his Man of the Match display versus Huddersfield.

Reds mainstay

Can, a 23-year-old German international, has been on the books at Anfield since 2014, when he joined from Bayer Leverkusen.

However, his contract with Liverpool is due to expire this summer, and there has so far been little to no progress made towards a new deal.

Bianconeri pursuit

It has long been known that Italian champions Juventus are keen to take Can to Turin, with CEO Beppe Marotta having previously confirmed the club’s interest.

Fellow suitors

Along with Juve, all of Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Inter Milan and Real Madrid are also said to maintain an interest in the services of Can, though the Old Lady have always been viewed as holding a clear lead in the race for his signature.

‘Have to accept it’

Speaking in an interview with DAZN last night, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp did little to dampen rumours that his side’s midfield powerhouse looks set for a summer departure from the club, with the German tactician explaining:

‘He’ll stay beyond the winter. Emre is still a young lad but he has developed into a great player and is very important for us.’

‘Sometimes a player just wants to sit out his contract. That’s not cool for the club, but there are moments in which you have to accept it.’

‘And as long as the player behaves like Emre does, then I have absolutely nothing to complain about. He gives everything he has and identifies with the club.’

Reaction

However, following Liverpool’s comfortable 3-0 victory over Huddersfield at the Kirklees Stadium tonight, supporters of the club have since taken to Twitter in their droves to plead with the board at Anfield to convince Can to stay put.

The powerful German was at his dominant best throughout tonight’s proceedings, taking a stranglehold in midfield from the off, as well as opening the scoring with a brilliant (deflected) strike from outside the box.
