Man United receive important midfield transfer boost

Atalanta midfielder and Manchester United target Bryan Cristante has admitted he would be open to a move to the Premier League in the future.

The 22-year-old, who started his senior career at AC Milan, has been an indispensable figure for Atalanta this season, making 27 appearances in all competitions.

Michael Carrick‘s retirement in the summer and the prospect of Marouane Fellaini leaving the club, along with question marks around Ander Herrera this term, has rendered the capture of a central midfielder paramount for Jose Mourinho over the next transfer window.

And Cristante, when asked about his future, noted that he hadn’t ruled out a move to the Premier League.

“I don’t know if Juventus want me,” he said.

“What I will do next summer depends on the next five months. I can’t rule out a move to the Premier League. I think it’s a good league for me and my qualities.

“One must always believe in his qualities. I’ve never cared about criticisms, I’ve always listened to my manager. I always give my best, I always work hard. Let’s see what the future has in store for me.”

Man United’s unexpected capture of Alexis Sanchez over the January transfer window, combined with the resurgence of Luke Shaw, will give Mourinho the chance to make central midfield his top priority over the summer.

Evolution needs to happen. Carrick, Fellaini and possibly Herrera aren’t going to be in the picture for much longer and Mourinho, in turn, needs to foster the growth of a new midfield that works seamlessly around Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.

And Cristante is just one of many options to be listed over the last few months: Jean Michael Seri, Leander Dendoncker, Jorginho, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Carlos Soler, Fabinho, Julian Weigl, Fred and Sergej Milinković-Savić are all reportedly on the club’s radar.
