Viewers of this evening’s clash between Stoke and Manchester City have taken to social media to lavish praise on David Silva, following the Spaniard’s match-winning performance.
The two sides went head to head at the Bet365 Stadium, with hosts Stoke having come into proceedings on the back of 3 consecutive Premier League draws, versus Brighton, Leicester and Southampton.
Manchester City, meanwhile, fell to a surprise Champions League defeat at home to Basel last Wednesday night, though the Citizens’ 4-0 first-leg result meant that they still progressed to the competition’s quarter-finals with ease.
The Sky Blues’ last league outing, on the other hand, saw a dominant performance result in a comfortable 1-0 win over Chelsea.
The starting lineups of both sides were announced an hour prior to kick-off, with Stoke boss Paul Lambert making just one change, as Jese Rodriguez stepped in for the injured Mame Biram Diouf:

Manchester City, meanwhile, welcomed a pair of key players back from injury, in the form of Fernandinho and Raheem Sterling, while Gabriel Jesus replaced the injured Sergio Aguero at centre-forward:
How we line-up tonight!
City XI | Ederson, Walker, Kompany (C), Otamendi, Zinchenko, Fernandinho, Silva, De Bruyne, Sterling, Sane, Jesus
Subs | Bravo, Danilo, Stones, Gundogan, Laporte, Bernardo, Yaya Toure

The early moments of this evening’s clash unsurprisingly saw visitors City control the majority of possession, with the Sky Blues rewarded for their early dominance with a vintage goal from David Silva.
After Gabriel Jesus dropped deep to slide Raheem Sterling in down the right channel, Sterling in turn picked out the arriving David Silva with a pinpoint drilled cross, with Silva making no mistake with an unerring finish past Jack Butland in the Stoke goal.
And it was Silva who was back at it again to seal City’s victory and restore the club’s 16-point lead atop the Premier League table 5 minutes after the interval, with the gifted Spaniard having finished off another flowing team move from the Citizens.
After some nice work between Raheem Sterling, Kyle Walker and Fernandinho on the halfway-line, the ball was eventually fed into Silva’s path, with the City legend moving the ball onto Gabriel Jesus on the edge of the box.
Silva continued his run, and was rewarded by Jesus with a perfect lofted return pass, before expertly volleying home under pressure from the onrushing Jack Butland.
The clash ended 2-0, with the the plaudits having deservedly gone to Silva for his majestic, match-winning performance.

David Silva is still the best player at Manchester City. Mad how he’ll somehow not get named in the Premier League team of the season and not be shortlisted for player of the year.

I’ve never watched a footballer as good as David Silva in Blue. It’s an honour and privilege. One of the greatest ACMs in PL history, and certainly the most underrated.

Don’t know why David Silva being world class is up for debate? Should be a common opinion that he’s world class.
